The architecture difference: your storage, not a cloud archive
The most important difference is not a single feature — it's the underlying architecture. Many document apps follow a hosted-archive model: your receipts live in the vendor's cloud, and you reach them through the vendor's app.
Scandora deliberately takes the opposite approach. Your original scans stay on your device and go only to the storage you choose; they sync directly into your own tools and storage — a Trello card, your own cloud drive, or your accounting, for example. On our EU servers we store a low-resolution preview, the extracted text and the document's details so your history syncs across your devices — never your original files. You remain the owner and custodian of your records; Scandora is the tool that captures and sorts them, not the place they live.
What that means in practice:
- No vendor lock-in of your documents. Your receipts sit where they belong — in your services, not in an archive tied to a subscription.
- Fewer data paths. What doesn't leave the device doesn't need to be stored, encrypted and later deleted on someone else's servers.
- You keep the choice of storage. Trello for workflows, a cloud folder for bookkeeping, a DATEV export for your tax advisor (coming soon) — Scandora delivers receipts to where you already work.

Managed AI instead of a chosen-for-you cloud AI
Scandora uses AI for data extraction — through managed AI. Your device calls the model provider directly, using a short-lived credential Scandora's server issues, billed as prepaid credits. You don't need to set up your own key or manage a provider account.

Real network scanners over eSCL/AirScan
Scandora pulls in receipts through the camera and directly from a real network scanner over eSCL/AirScan — the standard many Brother, Epson and other devices already support. For anyone processing stacks daily, that's the difference between "photograph one sheet" and "run the feeder."

DATEV & GoBD for small businesses
For freelancers and small businesses, what matters most is that receipts arrive cleanly at the tax advisor and in the books. Scandora is built for that:
- DATEV export. A DATEV-format export (EXTF booking batch) plus lexoffice and sevDesk voucher export are in preparation for the Business / DATEV plan and are not available in this version yet. Details in the guide DATEV export from your smartphone.
- GoBD building blocks. A content hash (SHA-256), an immutable audit log, and a generatable Verfahrensdokumentation (coming soon) — the technical basis for substitutive scanning.
